Arturas Bumšteinas - composer, sound artist. His work covers the disciplines of music, performance, theatre, exhibitions and radio art. Artūras often works not only as an audiovisual artist but also as an organiser, initiating various projects of experimental creativity and creating festival programmes. His musical territory extends from minimalistic soundtracks and voice manipulations based on games of meaning to carefully and delicately composed electroacoustic compositions, where fragments of acoustic instrument sounds are organically woven into the texture of electronic atmospheres, noises, and arrhythmic rhythms.
Arturas Bumšteinas has presented his music and audiovisual projects at numerous European festivals, participated in dozens of group contemporary art events in Lithuania and abroad, and held solo exhibitions in Germany, Sweden and Lithuania. In 2019, Bumšteinas was awarded the Boris Daugavytis Earring for the integration of sound experiments into new theatre forms. In 2021, he was awarded the Golden Stage Cross in the category "Music for Performance" for his music for the State Youth Theatre's productions of Krystian Lupa's Austerlitz and his directorial debut, The Urbančič Method.
A premiere of Arthur Bumstein "The Third Millennium" is created for this year's festival "Dive into the (sound) theatre". The creation of the performace was inspired by the novella The Third Millennium (1961) by British writer James Graham Ballard. It is a 21st-century dystopia about a future city with a catastrophic increase in population. The overpopulation reaches such a level that the streets become crowded rivers flooded with people and there are only a few square metres of living space per inhabitant. People live in stairwells, storerooms and closets, having lost all personal space and privacy. In the created performance of Arturas Bumšteinas, the audiences will not see a traditional theatrical performace, but audiences will enter the labyrinth of the actor Saulijus Čiučelis's modified voice, illuminated by the beam of video projection.
